I am a seventy-two year old man who has retired three times and since the last retirement I have found great passion and total enjoyment in writing. This is a venture I have wanted to pursue for years but because of life's pressures while raising a family and the demands of a number of dynamic jobs I could not dedicate the time to writing.
However, retirement has provided a new avenue of opportunities and since retirement I have written seven novels and I am working on others. In my professional life I have held a number of positions including; the trades, management, program development, administration, and executive management. I have invested years at various learning institutions attempting to gain a degree that has eluded me for a myriad of excuses, most of them serving as an excuse for my inability to stick it out. But, at my age, and owing to the fact my retirement is secured and not impacted by today’s financial folly I will not miss the degree.
Don’t look for my novels in the bookstores for as I mentioned there is a conspiracy in this writers' world that reads like a novel on its own rights-Catch 22. It seems ninety percent of the queries sent to an agent are returned with a message stating the agent has a full slate and are not taking on unpublished authors. The remainder of returns are split between ‘no longer in business’, ‘out of the office’, and occasionally a return that states, ‘not for me.’ It could be I have a much higher regard for my writing and I don’t deserve to be published? Whatever, I will continue to write and submit my work.
